Sparkling Verdicchio PetNat. La Staffa Mai Sentito! Verdicchio Pet Nat (2023) – Here the base wine is the fantastic Verdicchio of La Staffa with about 20% Trebbiano for body. Sure, it smells and tastes great – clean, fresh, notes of crunchy apple, white peach, and fresh lemon pulp and a tiny hint of ginger. But it’s the texture that’s captivating, zesty and mouthfilling and satisfying without one jot of extra weight (11% alcohol) or sweetness. Less fizzy and MUCH more flavorful than Prosecco, it’s a wine to drink to celebrate an afternoon, to toast unexpected guests, or just because you’re thirsty.
A blend of 80% Verdicchio and 20% Trebbiano, this organically farmed pet nat is loaded with aromas of pears, grilled lemon and dried flowers. It is hard to pull yourself away from smelling it to give it a sip. The palate is crisp and vibrant. A mineral and salty edge gives way to notes of almond, cider apples and honey, finishing with a bright kiss of acidity. — Jeff Porter
