The Alexaki Winery is the largest private winery in Crete but it remains a family business. Founded in the 1970s by Stelios and Sofia Alexakis, it is now continued by their children Lazaro & Apostolos. The wine is aged in 100% new French (Kotsifali) and American (Syrah) oak barrels for about 12 months. It is spicy, savory, medium plus bodied, structured, and balanced with soft tannin and lively acidity. Blackberry, black cherry, cinnamon, pepper, clove, cassis, sage, and mineral flavors abound. Try with BBQ, lamb, or venison.
