Try all three of our stunning reds from South Africa!
South Africa-Blue-shadowed stacks of Table Mountain sandstone and decomposed granite rise from vivid green pastures dotted with brilliant white facades of 300-year-old Cape Dutch homsteads. Thought to be one of the top 10 most beautiful places in the world, it produces wine with a real sense of place; robust, toasty reds and aromatic, lush whites.
*Nieuwe Haarlem Pinotage, Coastal Region. Pinotage is a cross between Syrah and Pinot Noir, and there seems to be a love hate relationship with it. If it is not well made it can exude rubber tire aromas, this one I assure you is not one of those. Whole-cluster fermented and aged for 12 months in French oak, it smells of plums and chocolate. The black fruit flavors are outlined with hints of coffee and exotic spice. I hear duck breast calling my name.
*Erasmus Grenache Swartland. The Erasmus family of winemakers dates back to 1699. This grenache is a lovely summertime red as it is medium bodied with mild flavors of red licorice and warm baking spices. Aged for 12 months in French oak this wine is well balanced with a touch of acidity to stand up to food and a smooth finish. Great with chicken kababs.
*Erasmus Shiraz, Coastal Region. This wine is also aged in French oak for 12 months and has those dark and brooding flavors that Syrah shows. Blackberry, Black Pepper and Black Plum flavors fill the mouth with a long and lingering finish. Roasted Lamb is on the menu with this one.
